The end of the dry season is one of the best times to observe a lot of game. The bush is at its driest, with beautiful yellow coloured grasslands that turn golden in the sun. The perfect conditions for photographers. Photographer James Crookes regularly travels to the South African lowfield at this time of year and is never disappointed.
Londolozi has had a special bond with leopards since 1979. In these years it was rare to see a leopard during a safari. The co-founder of Londolozi specializes in leopard conservation and since then this game reserve has been one of the best places in the world for leopard sighting. The National Geographic Channel has shot the series Leopard Queen here.
Filmmaker John Varty, who has followed a wild female leopard for 17 years, offers an extraordinary look at the life of Africa’s most mysterious big cat. Leopard Queen follows the life of “Manana”, a wild leopard that lives in the heart of the Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa. Manana is hindered by other predators who take away her prey, threaten her cubs and keep her captive in the treetops. But despite the rigors of life as a female leopard, she still turns 17 years old, an age that only a few wild leopards reach.
