We are happy to convince you why North Luangwa is a must-go for the safari enthusiast!

1. The flight there

North Luangwa can only be reached by plane. The 20-minute flight from South Luangwa

follows the Luangwa River to the top and goes over three national parks; South Luangwa, Luambe and North Luangwa. From the plane you can enjoy the breathtaking views over the valley. The flight there gives a good impression of the remoteness of the area.

2. The remoteness

North Luangwa is a remote wildlife park. There are only four options to spend the night in the entire national park. Because most guests have to fly in, this means that there are fewer visitors in this pure game area. You will rarely, if ever, encounter other tourists.

3. Great game drives, spot the ‘Big 5’

In Zambia you will find the ‘Big 5’ only in North Luangwa.

Many lions live here and they follow the herds with buffalo that pass through the park. In addition, there are many elephants and other animals such as Cookson’s wildebeest, elk and lots of Puku. There is also a lot to see in the field of birds; this area is home to more than 350 bird species.

4. Walking safaris with top guides

Walking safaris were originally born in Zambia. The tension of an approaching lion or coming face to face with a group of a thousand buffaloes is unearthable. The walks are always accompanied by an expert, enthusiastic and very experienced guide, but also by an armed scout…

5. Two habitats; mwaleshi   and the original Luangwa

During a six-day safari, spend three nights at the Mwaleshi River and three nights at the Luangwa River. The Mwaleshi is bright, shallow, with few crocodiles. Grass floodplain on both sides, ideal for walking. The Luangwa River has a totally different habitat, muddy, full of crocodiles and with riverine forest on either side.

6. Authentic bush camps, great outdoor camping & excellent food

There are several base camps in beautiful locations on the banks of the Mwaleshi. Exclusivity is guaranteed; the groups of up to 6 people are well taken care of. The delicious meals and the luxurious tent camps promise a truly unique experience in the middle of nature.

Curious about this special wilderness area? In September 2013 we organize a special trip to North Luangwa N.P.

I started Untamed with passion and love for the unknown. I am still enthusiastic about the unknown, new accommodations, pushing your boundaries. I regularly travel to our destinations to taste, experience and discover for myself. Traveling is looking at what is happening around you, but also discovering yourself. It doesn't stop, the more you discover the more you want to know. Everyone prefers to travel in their own way. People, animals, landscapes, cultures; meet and discover. We are all different, which makes it so interesting to share “adventure of a lifetime” with others.
