Back in the Netherlands we look back on a great trip to and stay in Mozambique. Our first experience with Africa yielded an overwhelming amount of impressions. We would like to pass on some of those experiences to you.
From Beira to Gorongosa Park in a single-engine Cessna plane in the afternoon was great.
Warm welcome by guides and staff. The safaris were very well taken care of with a lot of explanation where the great involvement of the guides was noticeable. Tents, food and drinks all perfectly fine. The atmosphere during and especially after the safaris was relaxed and enjoyable. Guides and staff really went out of their way to make everyone happy and they succeeded very well. In short, this was great!
From Gorongosa Park to Ilha de Mozambique . Stay on Ilha in a beautifully restored mansion. The island is now a world heritage site and receives the necessary resources from UNESCO for recovery, but a lot still needs to be done.
Visit with a guide to the hospital, among other things, showed that the decline is dramatic and that the medical situation is deplorable. In itself it is all attractive, little has been restored. Good food in various eateries. After 2 days you have really seen it so on to Nuarro lodge.
Seeing our son Joris again, who worked there for 2 months as part of his medical studies at Anan clinics, made the visit extra special. Location of the lodge in the bay and surroundings are fantastic. The reef can be seen especially well with snorkeling and diving. The chalets are luxurious and sometimes have a very nice view. Made a trip with dow (a bit short) and made a walk to the village led by a very good guide.
However, the food was disappointing; the quality was mediocre and much European. There is so much fresh seafood available, it is a pity that they are not used. I also discussed this with David and Monica (managers). If this is going to change, Nuarro lodge is really worth it.
I realize that this story is far from complete, but I have tried to present the most important points for us.
