Dear Sonja,
Recently, my girlfriend and I went to Mozambiquebeen. The whole trip was perfectly arranged and also the contact with your partner Infinite Africa was very pleasant. They responded quickly and appropriately.
We started in Maputo Special reserve with overnight at the beautiful Anvil Bay Chemucane. It is a beautiful place where you can walk along the private beach for hours without encountering anyone. The staff is very friendly and the food delicious! Highly recommended to unwind at the beginning or end of your trip. To get to the lodge you drive three hours through the park giving you a free safari that is well worth it. Then we went to Barra beach with overnight in beautiful Sentidos. The Sentidos has beautiful rooms with, again, friendly staff and delicious food.
Only downside is that the beach is not very pretty because thick pipes have been laid all over the beach with which they pump sand back into the bay and which also serve as breakwaters since Mozambique regularly experiences cyclones. Fortunately, they do have a nice pool. In Sentidos you can dive and snorkel. We found a visit to Pansi Island by boat well worthwhile. It is a sandbar that runs dry at low tide. You can find the special pansi shells there. After visiting Pansi Island, you will have lunch and go snorkeling among the locals looking for clams and other seafood.
We had 4 domestic flights and they too were all well arranged. We had only one one-hour delay.
In Maputo in the middle of our trip we had an overnight stay at the Polena Serena hotel. An impressive colonial-era hotel that has been completely restored. We also did a city tour of Maputo which was well worth it !
To conclude our trip, we went for five nights to Gorongosa were. It is a 4.5-hour drive from the airport. The first 1.5 hours are on a well paved road but the other 3 hours you drive on a super bad road even by African standards !
We went to Gorongosa because my friend really wanted to see wild dogs and I wanted to see a Pangolin. We saw the wild dogs 3x and the last time even while they were hunting. There were three pangolins in the shelter and fortunately I was allowed to see one. Very special and a great wish that came true.
We have been to Africa many times ourselves, but we also found Mozambique very suitable for people who have never been to Africa. We did not meet a single Dutchman on our trip; which is also quite special ! most tourists come from Portugal, France or Spain.
Mozambique is a beautiful country with very friendly people and delicious food! In short, highly recommended !
Sincerely,
Ingeborg and Karin
