Colourful tribes such as Mousgoum, Fulbe and Massa
Just beyond Lake Maga lies Pouss, centre of the Mousgoum ethnic group. The members can be recognized by their beautiful facial features and decorations in the face and their height. The Mousgoum men are easily two meters. The Tuesday market is one of the largest and most colourful in the north of Cameroon. This market is also visited by many other ethnic groups like the Fulbe (Pod), Mbororo, Massa and Tpuri. They come from far and wide with open trucks, donkey carts and ox wagons. The Palace of the Lamido (Sultan) is well worth a visit, you can see here a completely female-decorated and cheerfully painted mud gate. The sultan, who is also more than two metres tall, regularly receives tourists. He is very open-minded and likes to answer all questions about the sultanate. A little further along the river are some 'Cases Obus' (grenade houses) that together form a museum. Although not authentic they are definitely interesting to look at inside.
