On safari in Cameroon
The most famous of the six wildlife parks in Cameroon with also the greatest variety of animals is Waza National Park. No other park in West Africa has more animals than here. The main attraction is the elephants, in herds of sometimes as many as sixty specimens they come to the watering holes. Some pools are artificially constructed to please both animals and visitors in the months when there is no rain. The watering holes also attract many birds, including pelicans, eagles, crown cranes, herons, kingfishers and ibises. With any luck, you'll also spot lions, giraffes, topi's or roan antelopes. The park has two ecosystems: one with acacia' s, elephant grass and dense scrub overgrown area in the west and one, especially in the rainy season, soggy area in the east. In the context of park maintenance, large parts of the western part are regularly burned down.
