Samatian Island Lodge is located in a unique location, on a small private island in Lake Baringo in the Great Rift Valley. Breathtaking views over the lake with the Laikipia Escarpment as a backdrop. Baringo is of a legendary beauty. During the day you will be treated to beautiful skies full of special birds and the Njemps fishermen who have hardly changed their lifestyle in 200 years. By evening you will experience the most beautiful sunsets here. Depending on your wishes, you can be both relaxed and active on the island. Jogging, canoeing or bird watching during a nice walk along the lake. You can also take a boat trip across the lake, habitat of hippos, crocodiles, giant dragons and over 450 species of birds. Trips to neighboring Lake Bogoria,with its large numbers of flamingos and the rare Greater Kudu, forests and prehistoric Tugen Hills are also possible.
Small-scale paradise
The couple Ross and Caroline Whitney make their lodge a true paradise. With only twelve sleeping places spread over five luxurious open cottages with thatched roofs, peace and a lot of personal attention is guaranteed. Each room offers stunning views of the lake and all bedrooms have adjoining bathrooms, each with its own unique style. The family cottage has a double bed and a bedroom with two single beds. The open-air deck on the roof offers breathtaking views of the surroundings. A number of rooms has an indoor/outdoor bath. The spacious, open dining area overlooking Lake Baringo and the Great Rift Valley is the most idyllic setting to enjoy a delicious dinner. Of course, sundowner trips, bush breakfasts and romantic dinners on the water are also organized. In the spacious lounge, hammocks, chairs and sofas with comfortable cushions are at your disposal to relax. A dream is the large pool, which seems to run over into the lake. It offers panoramic views of the lake and rugged hills of Kenya's arid Northern Frontier District.
