Its five thousand kilometers of coastline has many paradisiacal palm beaches, bays and lagoons.
Many truly idyllic beaches along the west coast are still pure nature with no or few buildings, sometimes small fishing villages where traditional boats with colorful sails moor on the beach at the end of the day.
The most beautiful resorts are located on a private island or have a quiet private beach.
The hinterland of all those beautiful beaches depends on the region: palm trees and rocks, rainforest and tsingy, spiny forest and cactus plants, rustic bays with lots of wave action and dreamy beaches where the sea swings imperceptibly between low and high tide. Where the world can't find you...
Extremely diverse flora and fauna
Where the beach meets the sea, the magic of the underwater world begins.
The most beautiful snorkeling and diving locations can be found around Nosy Be and Île Sainte Marie, diving is equally possible from Ifaty and Anakao in the Tuléar region.
At all these locations you can observe humpback whales in some seasons.
By far the best chances are during a whale watching excursion from Île Sainte Marie, considered one of the best places in the world for whale watching.
Humpback whales pass here every year between July and October in search of a mate.
The Nosy Be Archipelago off the northwest coast consists of several islands - such as Nosy Be, Nosy Komba and Nosy Sakatia - with virgin palm beaches but also the marine reserve at Nosy Tanikely and several locations where many sea turtles graze the seabed.
Many whale sharks can be seen around the archipelago from mid-September to mid-December.
From Nosy Be further south are the beautiful and little-visited Îles Radama.
Sports activities
Kite surfers find their Valhalla in the far north, east of Diego Suarez on Sakalava Bay.
Around the Masoala Peninsula, life revolves mainly around the primary rainforest directly bordering Antongil Bay and the Indian Ocean.
The edges of the peninsula consisting of small bays and sheltered beaches, deep inlets, small rivers and rocky islands, it is a wonderful environment to explore by kayak.
