Bemaraha N.P. and the Ankarana massif
A special phenomenon on Madagascar are the Tsingy,AMalagasy word for a formation oferoded Limestone. Due to erosion, limestone has been transformed massively into a plateau with sharp points. This Tsingy can be found in theBemahara N.P. and the Ankarana Massif. Besides black tsingy in Bemaraha and Ankarana you also have beautiful red tsingy in northern Madagascar. The red Tsingy does not consist of limestone, but of eroded sandstone formations with an impressive red color palette.
The landscape of the Ankarana Massif is dramatic and magnificent at the same time. The massif is a limestone plateau with sharp points, the so-called Tsingy's, which protrude high above the dry landscape. The plateau has many caves and underground rivers amid dry, green forests. The area offers a home to many lemurs, birds, snakes, chameleons and other special species. A truly rugged paradise!
Tsingy de Bemaraha is a nature reserve inMadagascar registered since 1990 on theWorld Heritage List of theUnesco. The landscape in the reserve is very varied, from Tsingy to tropical rainforest on the hills.
