Desert landscapes & oases
Adrar is the most visited area of Mauritania. Not only for the vast beauty of the Sahara Desert, with its dune ranges and plateaus of altitude, but also for its impressive oases. The well-known Terjit oasis nestles in a gorge on the western edge of the Adrar. A medicinal spring and, with Terjit, many other springs, surrounded by exuberant vegetation, provide a magical image in the desert landscape. In addition, two of the four Mauritanian cities declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO are located in this region: Chinguettiand Ouadane.
