Beach holiday Mauritius
For many people Mauritius equal to paradise beaches, clear blue water and swaying palm trees. An ideal destination for a honeymoon or Beach holiday . But there is more to the island! Mauritius, named by the Dutch in the 17th century after stadtholder Prince Maurits, is volcanic. The island has more than 700 native plant species. You can admire them in the botanical garden of Pamplemousse and in natural parks, of which the Gorges de la Rivière Noire is most famous. The parks fit in with the sustainable tourism policy of the government and private individuals. You will also find monkeys, the pintail bird – symbol of the island – and red deer. The Dutch introduced the animals to the island, just like the sugar cane. Culture lovers will also be well catered for with museums, Hindu temples, Creole mansions from the colonial era and remains of the Dutch Fort Frederik Hendrik. The pearly white and golden beaches, the azure blue and always warm sea water and the many coral reefs make Mauritius a paradise for sunbathers, snorkelers, (deep-sea) divers and water sports enthusiasts.
