Special beach holiday Réunion
For a relaxing beach stay, the west coast of La Réunion is the most suitable. Here you will find sandy beaches, coral reefs, bars and restaurants. The main seaside resort of the west coast (and the whole island) is St. Gilles les Bains, with some comfortable 4-star hotels on the beach. In St. Lieu surfing is a lot to do, and the best dive sites are located on the west coast.
Around the whole island there is a beautiful coastal road. The rugged east coast is dominated by black volcanic rocks and black pebble beaches, remnants of lava flows that have reached the sea. The east coast has the most rainfall of the island and there is often a very rough sea. As you drive further south, you will get closer to the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise. The coastal road has been flooded by lava from the volcano in a number of places. If you follow the coastal road further north-westerly, you will finally reach Saint Pierre,where the first white sandy beaches begin.
