Special beach holiday
For many people, Mauritius equals paradisiacal beaches, clear blue water and swaying palm trees. An ideal destination for a honeymoon or beach holiday. But there is more on the island! Mauritius, named by the Dutch in the 17th century after stadholder Prince Maurits, is volcanic. The island has more than 700 native plant species. You can admire them in the Botanical Garden of Pamplemousse and in nature parks of which the Gorges de la Rivière Noire enjoys the greatest fame. The parks fit into the sustainable tourism policy of government and private individuals. You will also find monkeys, the stingray bird – symbol of the island – and red deer. The pearly white and golden beaches, the azure and always warm seawater and the many coral reefs make Mauritius a paradise for sun worshippers, snorkelers, (deep sea) divers and boaters.
