Bartholomew’s Cliff Farmhouse

Victorian estate near Cape Town

Just an hour's drive from Cape Town is Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse, a unique Victorian house on a large private estate also used as a wheat and sheep farm. Bartholomew's estate is a nature reserve with spectacular mountain views. The Victorian atmosphere of the house is present in every room; the furnishings are stylish with country details and the ensuite bathrooms have Victorian baths and toiletries made especially for Bartholomew. All this combined with stunning views from throughout the lodge makes this place a little paradise in the Cape wine region. Where the world can't find you...

Self-catering cottages

Bartholomew Cliff consists of five rooms in the main building and on the grounds are two self-catering cottages: Wild Olive House and Heron House. These cottages are ideal if you are traveling in a large travel party. Here you will find a spacious, open-plan sitting room, bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a dining room and a modern kitchen equipped with all amenities. In addition, both cottages have private gardens, braai facilities and swimming pools.

Nature Drive

Bartholomew's Klip borders a nature reserve of over 4,000 acres. One game drive per day on the reserve is included. This is not a reserve with large dangerous game, but with a variety of antelope species - including eland and bontebok - and the very special Quagga zebra. This subspecies - related to the steppe zebra - was extinct, but is now being revived. There are now several dozen individuals who have DNA that virtually matches the extinct species. The rangers also know much about the very rare Renosterveld fynbos which is found in this region, with many unique flowers and tuberous plants.
