Vibrant city at the foot of Table Mountain
Centrally located in the Cape region is Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world located at the foot of Table Mountain. Modern and hip, a real metropolis with cozy terraces, nice stores and good restaurants. In the center of Cape Town, the multitude of markets and souvenir shops around Greenmarquet Square are always fun to look at. Among other places on Longstreet you will still find beautiful buildings in Victorian and Georgian style. For world-class art, visit the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), the Goodman Gallery, Everard Read and South Africa's National Gallery. You can visit the beautifully restored Victoria Waterfront, a major tourist center on the harbor, where you can see sea lions floating around.
Base for day trips
The beautiful city with pleasant accommodations is a good base for activities and day trips in the area. From the Waterfront, a ferry boat sails to Robben Island. During an excursion to this island, you will gain insight into the history and living conditions of the imprisoned political opponents of the apartheid regime. Nelson Mandela was the most famous prisoner who was held there for nearly 20 years. You cannot miss the majestic Table Mountain. Cape Town is built around it, so to speak. You can climb Table Mountain or go up by cable car and take a walk around the plateau. On the plateau you have a chance to see baboons and klipdassen. From the plateau you will have a magnificent view of the city and the Indian and Atlantic oceans that meet at the Cape Point. A visit to the Cape Peninsula is one to be recommended. It is among the "flora kingdoms" of the world with one of the highest concentrations of different types of plants per square meter. Almost always you will see baboons, ostriches and mountain bucks. A walk at Cape Point gives you views of the meeting point of the two oceans and fantastic beaches bordering a rugged coast . Simon's Town is South Africa's naval city. Near Simonstown lives a large colony of penguins at Boulders Beach. From Houtbaai you can take a boat trip to Seal Island. Where the world can't find you...
