Winelands and Cape Town
A visit to the Western Capewill not disappoint you. The beautiful natural beauty, the variety of landscapes, the whales that can be seen from the beach and the beautiful city of Cape Town are just some of the highlights. One of the most beautiful cities in the world is undoubtedly Cape Town,the capital of the Western Cape. In Cape Town you can visit Table Mountain or the botanical gardens (Kirstenbosch) which lie at the foot of Table Mountain. Behind Cape Town begins the Cape Wine Country, an area where very good wines come from. This area consists mainly of tree and wine plantations. The most famous places are Paarl, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Robertson. You can visit the various wineries that produce excellent wines.
Whales at Hermanus
Gansbaai is a village in the western cape province of South Africa, about 40 km from Hermanus. The village is just like Hermanus on the Walker Bay and whales can be seen here. Gansbaai is also known for the great white shark found in nearby Shark Alley. In the heart of the Garden Route, between the Outeniqua Mountains and the pristine beaches of the Indian Ocean, lies Botlierskop Nature Reserve. This wildlife park is a 4-hour drive from Cape Town. It is malaria-free and rich in birds and wildlife, including 'the Big 5'.
Small and Large Karoo
In the Small and Large Karoo there are several beautiful nature reserves. This immense area, almost a third of South Africa, is home to a unique landscape with gigantic plains, majestic mountains and historic places. The indigenous people, the Khonia, called this region the Karoo, or 'the land of great thirst'. One of the special nature reserves is The Hope Nature Reserve,located on the Indian Ocean. Beautiful dune landscapes and vast beach, with a great chance to observe whales off the coast. The area is also home to various species of antelopes, variegated goats and zebras.
