Small boutique hotel in Gansbaai
Whalesong Lodge is a small and intimate boutique hotel located atop the rugged coastal cliffs of De Kelders near Gansbaai, just a two-hour drive from Cape Town. From the terrace there are panoramic views of picturesque Walker Bay and the Kleinrivier Mountains. The lodge offers many comforts but has a wonderfully casual, homey atmosphere. The living room has large French doors that open onto the wooden deck where you have full views of the bay. Open the doors and enjoy the fresh sea air flowing in. Breakfast is served in the large open kitchen or in nice weather on the terrace. For the cooler months, the fireplace is comfortably warm inside. At Whalesong Lodge, lunch or dinner options are limited to several mix & match platters with a variety of cheeses, meats, fresh salads and home-baked breads. There are several excellent restaurants in the immediate area. Returning to the lodge from a culinary night out truly feels like coming home to a warm bath. Finally, a nightcap on the terrace and enjoying the soothing sound of the waves for a little while longer completes the day. Where the world can't find you...
Whale watching from the terrace
At the Whalesong Lodge there is plenty to do all day, many activities revolve around the sea. You can swim in the pool - overlooking the sea - or from the beach in a small bay. Put on your hiking boots and you can walk endlessly along the deserted beach of the De Plaat nature reserve. For a healthy adrenaline rush, you can go cage diving with the great white shark, and horseback riders can enjoy the fynbos on horseback. The icing on the cake, however, is when you observe whales from the cliffs, the beach or the terrace of the lodge. It is just about possible here in the right season, as the whales come quite close to the coast and like to linger here. Just imagine: sitting back with a nice glass of wine or whiskey in hand, dreamily looking out over the bay, and then suddenly those humpback whales making acrobatic jumps....
