Remote, raw and authentic
The most remote of the LABA encampments and lodges is Jongomero. It is deep in the wilderness of Ruaha National Park, nearly a two-hour flight - by small aircraft - from Dar es Salaam. Below, vast woodlands and savannas glide by, the Ruaha River meanders through the landscape, game trails draw a tangle of stripes that converge around waterholes. The part of the park where a few lodges can still be found disappears from view, and then there is nothing but raw and authentic nature. From the air you may see the first herds of elephants; they are numerous in Ruaha NP. The airstrip looms, not far from the Jongomero River a tributary of the Ruaha River. Welcome to the heart of Tanzania, where you will come home to a delightful and stylish oasis. Where the world can't find you...
The natural wealth of Ruaha NP
Natural building materials and a traditional architectural style, the lodge blends well camouflaged into its surroundings. The open spaces and shaded terraces ensure that outside and inside remain connected at all times. The sleeping quarters - spacious canvas tents - are well-sealed to keep bugs out, while maintaining a view of the surroundings. Keep your binoculars handy so you can observe the many birds and other animals around the camp. Don't be surprised when an elephant comes to take a sip from the pool or when baboons watch the movements in camp from the trees. Here you are guests in a pristine part of Ruaha National Park, an area of unparalleled natural wealth with giant baobabs, a vast savannah landscape that has been called "Little Serengeti," laterite and acacia forests, wild dogs, lions and large herds of elephants.
