Near Lake Siwandu and the Rufiji River
The Rufiji River is one of the main arteries of Nyerere National Park. Before the Rufiji flows out into the Indian Ocean, the river receives water from numerous smaller streams, swamps and lakes. Water from the huge Lake Siwandu also joins the Rufiji River, only about 15 kilometers as the crow flies from the park's eastern boundary. Such a wetland is a walhalla for wildlife, and that is exactly what makes the location of the Siwandu encampment so unique. Biodiversity is just great here, your chances of seeing many species of game are also optimal.
Around the clock safari
The search for wildlife is always exciting; you can enjoy nature around the clock in camp and far beyond! Explore the open landscape with stretches of woodland and large expanses of water. You will set out here by 4WD, but you will also take walking safaris from the camp. Still moist elephant droppings give away that the animals cannot be far. It is exciting to find out in what direction they passed here, and where are they now? You might catch them in the river, when they take a refreshing bath in the deeper pools with undeniable pleasure. If you take a boat trip on the lake, look for life along the shores. You will see hippos, crocodiles resting on the shore, gazelles and giraffes, which for this reason are extremely nervous as they approach the water. Also note the many birds: raptors searching for fish and rodents, waders exploring the water's edge, the twittering bustle around weaver nests and the burrows of bee-eaters.
