Ranger training in the African wilderness
Have you always wanted to experience working as a ranger in the African wilderness? This is your chance! During this trip, you will participate in an official English-language ranger training in the world-famous Okavango Delta, a labyrinth of lagoons covered with water lilies, islands of palm trees, bird-rich swamps and meandering waterways. Learn from an expert guide how to track and approach animals, and learn how to maneuver through the channels of the delta in both a 4WD, a traditional mokoro (canoe) and a motorboat. You will also learn to shoot, to protect the group during walking safaris in case of escalation with a wild animal, something that fortunately rarely happens. Above all, don't forget to enjoy yourself while learning a tremendous amount about the flora and fauna of this beautiful area, with a depth that is impossible during a normal safari. Feel how you slowly become one with nature. A true once in a lifetime experience!
Tips & Tops from Okavango Ranger Training:
- You will be trained by an institute where renowned safari lodges have their guides trained
- The temporary camp where you will be staying is beautifully situated in a private concession on the Kwapa River. Here you are only with your fellow students and the trainers! The camp is not fenced and animals can come right into the camp
- As a tourist, you follow the official training along with the other trainees, but with no obligations. This means that if you do not want to participate in a certain part, you do not have to and you do not have to take an exam for this. Of course, you can take the full course
- Find out which direction the wind is coming from and approach a herd of elephants without hearing and smelling you, a unique experience!
- When you return from your workout, the bucket of your "bush shower" will be filled with hot water for you. Wonderfully refreshed, you dine under a twinkling starry sky and fall asleep to the nightly sounds of the Okavango Delta, which never sleeps
- Test your knowledge and explore further Botswana or visit the impressive Victoria Falls. Ask your travel specialist about the possibilities!
