Safari Akagera National Park

Birds & wildlife in Akagera National Park

From Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, you'll spend more than 2 days on an adventure in one of Rwanda's most varied National Parks. Akagera National Park is located on the border with Tanzania and named after the Akagera River, the most remote source of the Nile. The vegetation is varied, from marshes and lakes to African savannah and wide grasslands. The many waters make for a rich bird life and crocodiles thrive here too. They wait patiently for their prey.

On safari in Rwanda

Big game lovers are not disappointed. The lakes have a great attraction to elephants, buffaloes, leopards, hyenas and lions. You will take several safaris and see giraffes, zebras and many species of antelope, including the rare roan antelope, traversing the landscape. And when you get up early in the morning, you'll have the best chance of catching a glimpse of the rare but imposing shoecark. This is tucked between the papyrus vegetation on the shores of Lake Ihema.
