Large herds of elephants and lowland gorillas
No day is the same in Dzanga Sangha National Park. In addition to hundreds of bird species, forest elephants, giant forest boar, brush boar, marsh antelopes and buffaloes, this is also one of the few places on earth where the lowland gorilla still lives in the wild. A gorilla tracking in Bai Hokou gives you the opportunity to observe these gentle giants extensively.
Getting to know the pygmy population
On an adventurous walk on 'elephant trails', you will reach Dzanga Bai,a clearing in the forest where elephants come in large numbers to feed on the rich minerals and salts that are located here in the soil. You will also get to know the pygmy population extensively; the Ba'aka takes you 'nethunting', a very intensive form of hunting with a homemade net. When you have mastered this way of hunting, then go out with the women, looking for medicinal plants.
