Moon mountains
On the border with Congo lies the 120 km long Rwenzori mountain range with snow-capped peaks, special vegetation and excellent hiking opportunities. The highest peaks of the Rwenzori's are permanently covered with snow. Along with Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, these are the only mountains in Africa that have permanent snow tops. The mountain range, also called Mountains of the Moon, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a wonderful world of mountain lakes, waterfalls, glaciers and a special flora. The highest mountain is Mount Stanley, which consists of several peaks. The highest peak is the Margaritha Peak. After Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya the highest mountain in Africa. If you have an excellent condition, it is possible to make a heavy, multi-day trek along the peaks of the Rwenzori. It is also possible to make easier two- to four-day hiking tours in the rwenzori's promontory.
