On safari in Matobo
Just a half-hour drive from Bulawayo is Matobo Hills National Park. History, culture, fauna and flora, you will find it in abundance here!
Rhinos and rock carvings
Huge piles of red-tinted granite rocks are scattered throughout the landscape and are interspersed with wooded valleys and vegetation. The history of mankind here goes back to 2,000 years ago when the Bushmen lived here and left behind a beautiful collection of petroglyphs, much of which is well preserved. Later the hills were considered sacred by the Ndebele people and in colonial times this cecil Rhodes became his final resting place. You will not find any lions or elephants in the park, but the Matobo hills are known for the presence of the white and black rhinoceros, the leopard and the largest population of black eagles!
