Mountain Gorillas, Virunga and Akagera
Rwanda is known for its evergreen hills - hence its nickname 'land of a thousand hills' - and its mountain gorillas . Rwanda is one of the few countries, along with neighboring Uganda, where mountain gorillas still live. They live in the Virunga Mountains, in the northwest of the country. This Parc National des Volcans also offers ideal opportunities for mountain hikers. In addition, Parc National Nyungwe Forest with over a hundred species of orchids and about three hundred different bird species is more than worth a visit.
