Orangutans in Sumatra and Kalimantan
Spot Orangutans during a jungle trek through Bukit Lawang on Sumatra or admire not only these orange great apes but also proboscis monkeys in Tanjung Puting National Park on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo). In addition, on Sumatra, Aceh and Lake Toba are unmissable highlights. In Sulawesi, you can look for the famous ghost animals, as well as take beautiful walks through the beautiful mountain scenery of Tanah Toraja.
Traditional people, birds of paradise and Komodo dragons
In Papua, you will meet traditional people such as the Dani who live off agriculture and the Asmat and Korowai who live so isolated that you will only reach them after a boat ride and a brisk hike through the jungle. This jungle is home to unique and endemic animals such as tree kangaroos and the colorful birds of paradise. You can also encounter traditional cultures on the island of Nias.
Also be sure to take a boat trip to the white and pink colored beaches of the Komodo islands. Here lives a giant that can grow up to three meters long and is found only here; the Komodo dragon.
