LAST REMAINING WILDERNESS
One of Japan's last remaining wildernesses is Shiretoko National Park. The World Heritage Site is located on a HokkaidoPeninsula surrounded by marine parks where sea lions, orcas, seals and dolphins have free reign and the most extraordinary sea and migratory birds float around. In the inhospitable area between the coast and the peaks, five vast lakes shine, lapping waterfalls and bubbling hot springs. There are only two gateways to this wasteland where brown bears, deer and foxes live in the wild. A rough diamond, where you will most likely not encounter a human during a guided intensive hike.
Shiretoko National Park is at the lowest latitude in the world, and winters there are extremely cold. Visit the 'End of the World' when the Stellers sea eagle descends, the lakes are frozen and the ice floes pass you by. Adrenaline junkies put on their snowshoes for a trip through drift ice, a heart-stopping experience!
