The city of Prezwalsky
Located at the foot of the Tien Shan Mountains in Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan) is the pleasant provincial town of Karakol. Explore downtown and visit the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, the Chinese Dungan Mosque or the beautifully located Prezwalsky Museum, named after the most famous Russian explorer, who died in Karakol. Wander around the noisy Sunday market, where various ethnic groups come to Karakol from the pasture area to trade and hundreds of sheep, goats, cows and horses finally change hands after quite a bit of theatrical wrangling. Stroll among the sublimely elaborate varieties of fruits and vegetables, dried fruits, spices, breads and fabrics, and marvel at the overstuffed Ladas, Volgas and farm carts.
Karakol National Park
Several beautiful day hikes can be made in the Karakol Valley. Trek past waterfalls and clear blue streams and enjoy the phenomenally beautiful views of snow-capped peaks. Join the locals for a picnic in the national park with traditional shashlik, tea or a glass of vodka.
