Land of the 'mountain ghost'
While most people associate the very rare snow leopard with the Himalayas, Tien Shan and Pamir, most live in the inhospitable Mongolian Altaj and Govi-Altaj. Thanks to the abundant presence of prey such as Argali sheep, Siberian ibex and marmots, the population density of the mystical mountain ghost is highest here. Follow the elusive cat from a mountain home, as kites, eagles, vultures and falcons travel with you in the air.
But there is more... The Mongolian rugged highland is also the habitat of camels, foxes, wolves, Przewalski horses (Takhi), the Mongolian gerbil and the special saiga antelope. And with your luck, you might spot the rarest bear in the world, the timid Gobi bear. A handful are said to still live in the awe-inspiring desert he is named after.
