Travel along tropical rainforest, caves and beach
During the flight to Sandakan you will see that most of Sabah is covered with tropical rainforest. You may be able to see southeast Asia's highest mountain, Mt Kinabalu. Rivers meander in search of the blue sea, where tropical islands loom in the distance. The easternmost state of Malaysia is a vast valhalla for nature lovers!
A boat ride across the Kinabatangan River is a blissfully relaxing way to search for the numerous animal species, including hundreds of bird species. In search of orangutans, nose monkeys and other primates, you walk in the shadow of the dense jungle. The smell of moist soil hangs between the lower layers of vegetation. During the canopy walk you can see the forest from the perspective of most forest dwellers, who rarely or never get to the ground. The cacophony of sounds from the forest has no pause.
Traditional populations, such as the Murut, live deep in the rainforest. The time when the Murut headhunters were located in a distant past, the current generation receives you welcoming in their village and in the longhouse.
The trip ends languidly on a silver-white beach. The rustling of the waves sounds remarkably calm, your eyes need to get used to the open space. Beneath sea level, beautiful coral reefs await.
