Barefoot paradise

Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui....

That's just the beginning of a particularly long list of beach destinations in Thailand. Thailand is a beach destination par excellence with numerous islands, pearly white sandy beaches, azure waters and swaying palm trees. Here there is an undiscovered spot for every sun and sea lover to lounge barefoot, swim, snorkel, eat, maybe kayak for a while, and repeat....

Islands in the Andaman Sea

Krabi is on the west side of mainland southern Thailand, Phuket is the largest island in that region, Koh Lanta is also large. Because of the vast hinterland, you have a great choice of resorts and activities here, not only at sea but also just on land. Koh Phi Phi 's striking and photogenic landscape invites a spirited climb to the top of one of its many rock formations.

If you are primarily looking for peace and quiet and activities on and in the sea, the options are almost limitless. Koh Mook is a quiet islet that is part of Chao Mai National Park, where an adventurous paddling trip through a hidden lagoon through the pitch-dark Emerald Cave leads to an unlikely natural paradise. In Phang Nga Bay with its characteristic granite formations lie Koh Yao Noi, the ultimate island escapade, and the virtually deserted Koh Yao Yai. Here there is nothing to do all day but enjoy deserted beaches, pristine mangrove forests and a blissful bowl of curry at a local restaurant. Koh Lipe is among the southernmost islands, not far from Malaysia.

Gulf of Thailand

Koh Samui is among the larger islands in the Gulf of Thailand, not far from this island is the rustic Koh Pha Ngan. Koh Tao is part of the Chumphon archipelago and is the base to visit the Mu Ko Chumphon National Park. From Koh Tao you also reach Koh Samet. On the western side of the Gulf of Thailand is Koh Chang, also a large and fantastically beautiful island. The advantage of Koh Chang is that it is relatively close to Bangkok, allowing you to travel here overland - and a bit by sea - in a short time. Another beach destination not far from Bangkok is the resort town of Hua Hin. This is not an island, the atmosphere is more mundane with many restaurants and a vibrant nightlife.

Remote Kho Kood has no extensive nightlife, traffic or noise. This exclusive island is not frequented by backpackers. Here you have the dazzling sandy beaches enclosing a dense green jungle with magnificent waterfalls all to yourself. Nearby star-shaped Koh Mak is covered with rubber trees, palm plantations and vegetable gardens with banana plants and pineapple bushes. That, the empty beaches, clear waters and laid-back atmosphere make the tiny island an unforgettable getaway.
