Shore diving
With over fifty shore dive sites, Bonaire has been named the world's number one shore dive destination. Yellow stones along the road mark the places where you can walk straight into the sea from the shore, where the entry and exit routes are marked to protect the coral. Located outside the hurricane zone and declared a protected area in 1975, Bonaire National Marine Park is one of the exceptional places where you can dive among vast areas of healthy coral 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Washington Slagbaai National Park
One of the most beautiful areas for shore diving is Washington Slagbaai National Park, where as many as six dive spots invite underwater exploration. Recommended is Boka Bartól, Bonaire's northernmost dive spot, where you'll dive among tube eels, peacock flounder, turtles and hermit crabs and larger species such as barracudas and eagle rays. The secluded Wayaka 1 is also a great place to stop for a shore dive. You will swim among sergeant majors, French emperor fish and rainbow parrot fish. Boka Slagbaai is a historic gem where long forgotten cannons wait to be discovered, in the presence of hagfish, manta rays and lionfish.
Klein Bonaire
Klein Bonaire is a small and uninhabited reef island off the coast of Kralendijk. Framed by beautiful mangroves and coral reefs belonging to the National Marine Park, it is a draw for large schools of colorful reef fish, barracudas and seahorses. In addition, the wide white beaches are an important nesting place for the sea turtles that swim in the surrounding waters. It is the breeding ground of the loggerhead turtle, green sea turtle and hawksbill turtle.
the east coast
Although the bulk of dive spots are on the west side of the island, the east coast offers dive experiences that are, if possible, even more adventurous. Be taken to the "other" underwater world and discover the domain of spotted eagle rays, stingrays, sharks, green moray eels and several species of sea turtles.
