Spice island
Grenada is a mosaic of paradise islands, fringed with snow-white sandy beaches that surround tropical rainforests full of waterfalls. It offers world-class water sports, mouth-watering cuisine and interesting cultural and historical sites. Yet it is the very warm-hearted locals who will make your visit to this little Caribbean pearl unforgettable. Where the world can't find you...
Main Island of Grenada
Grenada is also known as the spice island of the Caribbean, because in addition to huge quantities of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and mace are also grown there. Sugar cane and cocoa plantations also cover large parts of the main island, inviting culinary exploration. Be sure to sample rum at River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery and chocolate at the authentic Belmont Estate, before dining at the numerous restaurants in St. Louis. George's. Also recommended is the hike to the Seven Sisters waterfalls, a tough climb through the mountainous Grand Etang N.P. that will be rewarded with a cooling dip in a mountain pool. Also, take a snorkel cruise to the world's first Underwater Sculpture Park; an underwater museum where you will float above more than a hundred sculptures amid stingrays and turtles.
Carriacou and Petite Martinique
For extensive exploration of the underwater world, visit beautiful nearby Carriacou. There, the pristine coral reefs are a walhalla for divers and snorkelers, and the small island also holds great appeal for sailors. The third inhabited island, Petit Matinique, is blessed with powder-soft, bar-topped sandy beaches from which a hike to the Piton offers phenomenal views of the surrounding Grenadines.
