In the capital city of Valletta , narrow winding streets invariably lead to the main square which is dominated by the huge Baroque church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hidden and deserted coves with pebble and rocky beaches overflow into shallow Mediterranean waters. The Blue Cave consists of seven caves that were created by the current and waves of the sea. The location of the caves in combination with the position of the sun ensures that the water reflects beautiful shades of blue. Sail from Malta to the sister islands of Gozo and Comino in less than an hour . The two temples of Ġgantija in Gozo are the oldest free-standing monuments in the world, proof that humans lived at least 1,000 years before the construction of the Egyptian pyramids at Giza. Comino is the smallest of the trio and largely uninhabited.
