Giants of the ocean
All year round, Norway is visited by the giants of the ocean, the whales. Sperm whales, orcas, humpback whales and pilot whales are seen along the coasts in the north of the country. During the summer it is mainly the sperm whale that is spotted at the vesterålenarchipelago. Around the island of Andenes, large groups of humpback whales swim all year round.
Every winter, millions of herrings swim to the fjords of Norway with the Orcas chasing them. In the fjords, the Orcas are doing too well with the herring, a spectacular spectacle that it is possible to witness during a whale watching excursion in the region of Alta.
