More than sand, sea and sun
The Algarve is famous for its golden beaches fringed by dramatic cliffs with magnificent limestone caves and the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Besides sand, sea and sun, the inland region has historic terraced hilltop villages and enchanting castle towns, and did you know that the area is also well known to bird watchers? In autumn, thousands of migratory birds fly over the Algarve during their migration toward Africa. Outside the summer months, the southernmost area of Portugal also offers excellent opportunities for hiking or cycling in the mountains of Monchique or over the cliffs along the coast.
