Paris of the South
Buenos Aires is perhaps the most fascinating city in Latin America. Swinging, lively and a beautiful mix of authentic and modern. Thanks to countless shops and boutiques, architecture, cultural life, restaurants and the cosmopolitan population, Buenos Aires is also known as the Paris of the south.
The city is made up of barrios (urban areas) including the Microcentro, the city centre and nerve centre of the Argentinian business world with the government building, the Casa Rosada. The famous barrio La Boca is located on the old port, with its colorful wood and corrugated houses. In the tango barrio San Telmo, an old 19th century urban district, the antique market takes place on Sundays; very cozy with lots of tango music and dance on the street. The port area around Puerto Madero is a wonderful example of an urbaan renovation project; the small 'Manhattan' shows delights of modern Argentine and Spanish architects. The district is close to the Reserva Ecologica, a nature park in the middle of the city, where the porteños catch their breath. Also visit the city's most exclusive neighborhood, La Recoleta. The architecture reflects the richness of the early 20th century Argentine aristocracy. And stroll through the Palermo district with its many parks and hip restaurants and shops.
