Paradisiacal Placencia
An elongated peninsula winds south off the coast of Belize. A lovely place with sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, restaurants, bars and fantastic hotels: Placencia is the name of this earthly Paradise.
On the east side you will find the Caribbean sea with reefs begging to be discovered by snorkelers or divers. The whale shark is also seen here, mainly with a full moon, between April and July. A lot of people come to snorkel with these special and friendly giants.
On the west side is the Placencia Lagoon where crocodiles, turtles, waterfowl, dolphins and the shy manatee live their quiet lives. What could be better than exploring this natural paradise with a small boat or a kayak?
Paradise extends more inland to the Mayan Mountains,an area with tropical rainforests, steep slopes, orchids, rivers and waterfalls that flow into pools for swimming and of course countless animals. The jaguar is also found here and the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary offers the opportunity to search the jungle for this special animal.
