Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna
Lake Titicaca is located on the plateau of the Altiplano with the snowy peaks of the Cordillera Real in the background. The lake is one of the most beautiful sights in the region. It is situated at an altitude of 3820 meters, is more than 230 km long and extends in both Peru and Bolivia. It is a remnant of the ancient inland sea, the Lago Ballivián, which covered most of the Altiplano. On the south side of the lake is one of the traditional villages, Copacabana. The village hasan important religious past and still attracts pilgrims to this day. On the lake there are numerous islands including the Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna. According to Inca mythology, Isla del Sol is the birthplace of the sun, here you can visit the Inca sites Pilko Kaina and Chincana, the sacred rock where the Inca legend began.
