La Ciudad Blanca
Sucre is the legal capital of Bolivia but the government of the country is located in La Paz. The city was founded at the foot of two hills where silver was found. After the independence of Bolivia (August 6, 1825), the city was given its current name Sucreon August 11 of that year. It was named after Antonio José de Sucre who fought with the freedom fighter Simón Bolívar for independence. Today, sucre's Old Town is considered the best preserved Spanish colonial city in South America, with many white buildings and churches (hence the nickname "La Ciudad Blanca").
