Suspension bridges above cloud forest
The Monteverde cloud forest reserve is located at 1400m in the beautiful mountain landscape of the Cordillera de Tillaran. A cloud forest is a specific type of rainforest, regularly shrouded in mists. Monteverde Cloud Forest is known for its enormous biodiversity, 130 species of mammals, 500 bird species, 120 amphibians and reptiles and more than 3000 different plants. The plant growth of the cloud forest is characterized by ferns, bromeliads, mosses and orchids that cover the trunks and branches of the forest. Together with the mist, this gives the forest a fairytale atmosphere. The reserve includes the Reserva Biológica Bosque Nuboso Monteverde, with the largest number of orchids in the world and the famous quetzal bird that descends here during its trek. Furthermore the Bosque Eterno de los Niños (funded by schools and children from all over the world) and the Reserva Santa Elena. Also known is the Selvatura park which offers one of the best opportunities for a trip in the canopy of the forest, an ecosystem in itself where you can find another fauna and flora. The park has a system of eight suspension bridges connected to paths that lead you through the crowns.
