Colonial jewel of the north
It was in Cajamarca where the Spanish conquistador Pizarro ambushed and captured the last Inca emperor Atahualpa. Despite Atahualpa meeting him with a ransom, a room full of gold and silver, he was still sentenced to death. Civilization had begun. It gives a special feeling to wander around in this historic place. The traditional Cajamarca is located in the green valley of the same name, in northern Peru. It has a well-preserved Spanish colonial center. Around the Plaza de Armas (the main square) are the cathedral, impressive churches and baroque houses on cobbled streets. Just outside Cajamarca are the Baños del Inca, the hot springs of the ancient Incas.
