Cougars in Torres del Paine

Cougar spotting

This trip is specially designed to spot these charismatic feral cats in one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. You will stay in the park so that you can go on an expedition during the day and especially at night under the guidance of an expert guide. This trip is available from November to April.

Tips & Tops Safari Torres del Paine:

  • You are staying at Hosteria Las Torres in the east of the park.
  • The hunting area of the cougar is in the eastern part of the park. The area consisting of the northern coast of Lake Sarmiento, the Laguna Amarga and the Laguna Azul is known to contain one of the highest concentration of cougars in the wild. The period from February to April is the best time to see the cougars as the females are then actively hunting for food for their growing cubs. During this period they are not only active at night, but also during the twilight hours.
  • If time permits, you'll also look for other animals such as the ubiquitous guanaco, the local Andean deer or Huemul, Patagonian Hog-nosed skunks and the two fox species that are located in the park, the Chilla and Culpeo foxes.
