Colonial Merida in the highlands
The mountain area of Venezuela, based on the charming colonial Merida, offers special views and very picturesque places. The highlands, called Paramos, have specific endemic flora, including the frailejon. Take a tour of the valleys and visit ancient glacial lakes and small typical Andean villages. Take the world's tallest cable car from Merida and behold the Pico Bolivar, with its over 5,000 meters the highest peak in Venezuela. For sports enthusiasts there is a lot to do: trekking, rafting, paragliding or canyoning.
