Alila Jabal Akhdar

Experience the surroundings, even when you're inside

Located on a summit of two thousand meters high and yet almost invisible. After many bends and twists and turns you will end up on a mountain road at the Alila Jabal Akhdar hotel. The stones with which the hotel is built come from the mountainous surroundings themselves, which gives the hotel a bright colour. Like the location is also the comfort level: high. For adventurers and nature lovers who want to spend their holidays comfortably.

The design is inspired by the ancient Omani forts of the region. And like the forts at the time, the hotel is now a good base for those who want to explore the mountain area. Due to its high location, Jabal Akhdar is not on a thoroughfare and so here lies the undiscovered Oman. Far from the busy capital, silence and solitude reign. Nature, fresh air and countless small roads leading to new valleys with endless views. The mountains are made up of countless layers of earth tones. Behind each mountain follows another. Wander through the desolate area, with a passing mountain goat as the only companion.

And once back in the hotel you still feel in the midst of this natural beauty. Because the interior also reflects the surroundings: capture the spirit of the place, Jabal Akhdar is spacious and minimalistally decorated. Nevertheless, there is enough to make every guest feel welcome: on entry, the backgammon game is already on the table.

Tips & tops Alila Jabal Akhdar:

  • Press your nose against the window during the ride from capital Muscat. Travel in two hours on a winding road with heavy turns and glorious views to the destination
  • Stay on the balcony. At two thousand meters high, above the enchanting mountains and sometimes even above the clouds you will be short of eyes. Ears you don't need, the only sound is a breath of wind
  • Sharp cliffs and deep abysses. But the Damask Rose doesn't care. It blooms from March to May and turns the hills around the hotel soft pink. A walk through this rose forest is fairytale. But even when the flowers have bloomed, don't worry. After their harvest, the rose petals are used for rose water and soap. These are ready in the bathroom
  • Swim above the clouds, in the hotel's heated outdoor pool
  • Even while eating, guests don't have to miss the view. Staring at the horizon you can enjoy the Arabic cuisine. The hotel does not have an alcohol license, but with such a view the attention probably does not go to the glass of wine anyway
  • For those who, after an overdose of nature, crave some history and culture, the cities of Nizwa, Bahla, and Erb are within travel distance. The Bahla Fort is a Unesco World Heritage Site. In addition, the city is known for its handmade pottery
  • Jabal Akhdar has a gym, library and babysitting service
  • Centuries-old Asian healing techniques have ended up in the Middle East via trade routes. Massages, meditations, old beauty recipes and natural products (handmade rose soap!) are waiting for you. Jabal Akhdar has a Spa with a Jacuzzi, steam room and seven treatment rooms. And also this: with a view
