Imposing forts
From a distance it looks as if the stately round towers are wearing a crown. But at the beginning of the 20th century, there were no kings here, but criminals. The Al Koot Fort in Doha was built to protect Souk Wakif from predatory thieves. The doors of the small cells are open nowadays. Curious visitors can take a look.
For those who are impressed, a trip to the northwest of Qatar awaits. The Zubara Fort looks like a huge sandcastle. But the thick walls aren't just to blow. Since 1938 they have been firmly on the coast. However, visitors have to blink for a moment to see the imposing building: the walls are exactly the same colour as the sandy surroundings. This fort once served to protect the port city of Zubara. Nowadays archaeological finds are on display.
