Nunavut
Of the 36,000 inhabitants (most Inuit) of the Nunavutterritory, almost one-third live on Baffin Island. Outside the capital Iqaluit there are only a dozen small communities, including Pond Inlet. Despite their modest size in the immense surrounding landscape, the setting of unprecedented significance. IQALUIT
Iqaluit is in the far south. In the warmest months, parts of the Arctic tundra are ice-free. A short explosion of color is the result, as mosses and grasses come to fruition. Nature is in a hurry: insects are active for a short time, and reindeer benefit from the exposed greenery.
