ROCKY MOUNTAINS
The Canadian part of the Rocky Mountainsstretches for 1,450 kilometers. The geology of the series of mountain ranges is complex, the primal forces that did their work here are almost palpable in this impressive landscape. The Canadian Rockies are picturesquely beautiful, a hymn to nature.
FIVE NATIONAL PARKS
No wonder there are no less than five national parks, with hundreds of walking routes and numerous opportunities for sporting activities. Put on your hiking boots, and head out for a short hike to a waterfall, a day trip, or a multi-day trek through deep canyons and along mountain ridges. This is how you experience the scale of the landscape and the immense height of the snowy mountains the most intensely!
ICEFIELDS PARKWAY
A special route is the Icefields Parkway,or Highway#93, which connects Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. It is possible to complete the route in a few hours, but the surroundings will tempt you to many stops at viewpoints and for short walks. In the valleys there are pleasant temperatures. Lakes turn bright turquoise in the summer months, due to the sediment carried by meltwater from the glaciers. As soon as you cross Columbia Icefield the temperature drops sharply, the wind coming from the Athabasca glacier is icy cold! Hop in a helicopter for a round trip over the glacier and along mountain flanks: sensational!
