VANCOUVER ISLAND
Vancouver Island and the surrounding region form an extremely complex ecosystem. You will find rainforests, rivers, lakes and swamps, as well as beaches, small islands, fjords, straits and oceans. Here you can spend many days trekking through different landscapes and national parks without having to travel long distances. Even if you prefer one lodge as a fixed starting point, you can hike among ancient cedar trees, enjoy views from the mountains, rock climb or horseback ride, take a beach walk at sunset, and so much more....
CRUISE AMONG WHALES, ISLANDS AND FJORDS
The waters around Vancouver Island are considered the best locations for whale watching, and there are many departure points for whale watching excursions. Orcas, Minke whales and humpback whales are especially often seen. However, early spring (from March-early May) is dedicated to the gray whale, when the migration of some 20,000 animals passes the west coast of Vancouver Island! A longer cruise through the Inside Passage is not seasonal: the straits between the islands and the mainland, deep bays and fjords are picturesquely beautiful summer and winter.
First Nations
Many mainland artists have settled here, but also on Vancouver Island you will be introduced to the culture of the First Nations, as the original people in Canada are now officially called. Even today, the Kwakwaka'wakw, the Nuu-chah-nulth and the Coast Salish live in close connection with nature. At Nanaimo Petroglyph Park, you can take a walk past thousand-year-old fascinating rock engravings depicting all kinds of wondrous creatures.
