Narwhal photography at the Northwest Passage

UNIQUE NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY EXPEDITION

Join a team of experts on a photography expedition to photograph one of the most unique marine mammals on Earth: the narwhal. These shy, docile animals, also called the "Unicorn of the Sea," congregate in an area near the Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge, to feed on Arctic salmon trout each late summer. Supported by a helicopter, you will walk along the shores of the shallow inlets of the Northwest Passage, where these whales feed on schools of fish. In addition, visit the interior of Somerset Island in search of Polar Bear, Musk Ox, Arctic Fox and Snowy Owl, among others, amid the changing late summer landscapes. Where the world can't find you....

Narwhal Photography

Photographing narwhal requires patience - walking carefully to the coastal areas where these whales feed and making sure we don't disturb them. With patience, you can photograph them off the shoreline by exploring the coastline extensively and photographing the whales as they travel to their feeding grounds. The same coastline is inhabited by polar bears and beluga whales.
